I’m officially on vacation, and what does that mean? Going someplace fancy? Creating some new memories with family? Learning a new skill or just going out to meditate on life and the world as a whole? NO! I’m building me a new computer! Yeah! I ordered my new computer, today. After some heavy reading, I have gone with the following items:
Motherboard: MSI 790GX-G65 Socket AM3
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 260 896MB
Power Supply: OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ700MXSP 700w
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz
Memory: OCZ Platinum 4GB DDR3 1600
I wasn’t going to do this right now. I was going to wait another year or two, however, Kristina (my girlfriend) is running an old Dell Dimension 4600. It’s not the worst computer, but no new video cards can be fitted because it was made in the AGP era. I figured I could take her old computer and do something with it, later. Maybe make it into a server of some kind.
As the parts trickle in, I’ll put up some benchmark stats on each of the three computers to see what we’ve got. I was also given a nice little rig at work, so I’ve got alot of computers to play with, right now. I plan to put a side-by-side benchmark results sheet up in a few applications with all four computers.
I just love this time we’re in.

It’s sad how true this is.

Well, the day has arrived. It’s time to buy yet another computer it seems. As computers are getting cheaper and cheaper every year, it is becoming less painful to upgrade regularly. However, we all still want to make sure to get the biggest bang for our buck.

Don’t fret! There are a number of choices that make sure you get the job done, as well as keeping your wallet from getting any lighter.

Dell

Dell is a well known and well trusted brand. They have good quality PCs at reasonable rates and technical support is extremely good. To users that argue this, due to their reputation regarding poor technical support, they recently brought technical support back to the US after a huge number of complaints, to ensure customers were getting the help they need. Unfortunately, it hurt their reputation pretty badly, and it has been an uphill struggle for them ever since. Dell is definitely back in full swing and ready to make sure you are as satisfied as you can be.

Well, I’ve been a Mac user for about 20 days now and I feel I have evaluated this thing pretty effeciently. I’m still not a mac expert, however I can say that I could pretty effeciently work on these things, already. I managed to get all software installed and working that I needed with free alternative applications that ran pretty effeciently.

People that claim this thing is crash-proof are lying through their teeth. I have restarted this thing 50 to 100 times, of which about 65 percent of the time, it was due to wine running, however, there was still a good chunk that crashed out while accessing wireless, utilizing the soundcard to make audio files, running

These applications did a pretty good job at replacing my pre-existing pc setup on mac for web developement. Alot of this I was already using in Linux and just had X11 ports for the applications. Continue reading
