Well, an entire week has gone by. Things have been done/undone, broken/unbroken, crashed/un… Well.. Hmm… All in all, the Mac experience has been somewhat enjoyable after some getting used to.
I have found a multitude of new and interesting things to play with in the OS and overall, really enjoy the interface. However, as with anything, there are still an equal share up sides and down sides. Continue reading

After 1 day and what feels like a hundred hours of cleanup and research, I have finally managed to clean the crap off of it and find alternatives (poor alternatives, but alternatives) to some of my favorite programs.
I have managed to get Gimp and Inkscape to work on the mac with very little effort, but when it opens, it has an X11 platform icon show up, which signifies to me that it is emulated. I am not a fan of programs that have to use an emulator of another platform as they tend to be unstable, however, I have not yet had any instability, so I wont complain about that. I have found a text editor called TextWrangler, which has text editing and ftp in it, however, it feels like something is missing. So far, it seems to work just fine. Continue reading

“Why aren’t we at least considering Macs for the one to one program?” a teacher proclaimed with bolstered applause from colleagues and pop culture fanatics, clamoring in unison like children in front of the toy section at wal-mart.
The event above is one of many that I have witnessed in regards to Apple recently and I am finding it pertinent to at least look into the practicality of utilizing Mac’s over PC’s. Though I argue there are few if ANY practical purposes of utilizing a Mac over a PC and price should sway all audience away from using a Mac as anything more than a nifty computer in an awesome looking package.
We have recently come in contact with a Mac rep that has handed over a server and 3 MacBooks for one month for my work to play with. I have vowed to utilize these MacBooks for a month as my only computer. As of today, I will no longer use anything but a Mac for 30 days.
All bets are off
I am going to put price aside and just enjoy using a mac for the next month and relay my results and findings. Continue reading
